Przedsiębiorstwo Soitec przedstawiło czterozł±czowe ogniwo fotowoltaiczne, które pracuje ze skoncentrowanym promieniowaniem. Według producenta sprawno¶ć ogniwa PV wynosi 43,6%. Wynik ten potwierdzono w laboratorium Frauhofer ISE. Osi±gnięta sprawno¶ć 43,6% (warto¶ć szczytowa) występuje przy koncentracji 319 razy. Dla skoncentrowania w zakresie od 250 do 500 sprawno¶ć ta przyjmuje poziom około 43%.

Warstwa (powłoka) "inteligentnie" przepuszczaj±ca promienie słoneczne

Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science i Technology (AIST) and Sumitomo Chemical Co Ltd opracowały powłokę, która ma za zadanie wspierać oszczędzanie energii. Opracowana powłoka blokuje promienie słoneczne w okresie letnim a umożliwia przechodzenie promieni w okresie zimowym. 
Interesujacy jest sposób działania warstwy, wykorzystuj±cy różne k±ty padania promieni słonecznych latem i zim±. Opracowana powłoka może zostać przymocowana do okna i nie powoduje ona utrudnień w widoku.

Naukowcy z Australii opracowali drukowane ogniwa fotowoltaiczne

Naukowcy z Australia's Victorian Organic Solar Cell Consortium (VICOSC) – współpraca Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), The University of Melbourne, Monash University wraz z partnerami z przemysłu – udało się wydrukować ogniwa fotowoltaiczne wielko¶ci arkusza A3.

Zespół VICOSC użył do drukowania ogniw fotowoltaicznych specjalnego „fotowoltaicznego atramentu”, specjalistycznej drukarki oraz techniki zbliżonej do sitodruku.

Ogniwa te s± w stanie wytworzyć od 10 do 50 wat energii z ogniwa o wielko¶ci 1 m kw. Ogniwami tymi mog± być pokryte okna (np. wieżowców) umożliwiaj±c uzyskanie dodatkowego Ľródła zasilana. Ogniwa te mog± być także nadrukowane na takich materiałach jak stal i umieszczane na dachach.

Korporacja Sharp ustanowiła nowy rekord ¶wiata w efektywno¶ci ogniwa fotowoltaicznego

Firma Sharp (Osaka, Japonia) osi±gnęła rekord ¶wiata w technologii ogniwa fotowoltaicznego dotycz±cego koncentracji ¶wiatła słonecznego bij±c rekord ustanowiony w grudniu 2012 roku. Korporacja Sharp osi±gnęła 37,9% efektywno¶ć swojego trójzł±czeniowego ogniwa fotowoltaicznego. Wynik ten został potwierdzony przez National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (Tokyo, Japan).

Elastyczne krzemowe ogniwa słoneczne

Badacze z Penn State University wytworzyli elastyczne ogniwa słoneczne bazuj±ce na cienkiej krzemowej nici. Dzięki wysokiemu ci¶nieniu z czystego krzemu wytwarza się nić (cieńsz± od ludzkiego włosa), która działa jako ogniwo słoneczne. Obecnie możliwe jest wyprodukowanie włókien o długo¶ci 1 m.

Argumentem przemawiaj±cym za takimi ogniwami jest ich szeroki k±t pochłaniania ¶wiatła. Klasyczne ogniwa fotowoltaiczne maj± zwykle płask± powierzchnię absorbuj±c± promieniowanie. Elastyczne włókna pochłaniaj± energię słoneczn± cał± powierzchni±.
